Time: ~ 1 hour
- Crochet cotton,
- Tatting needle,
- Shuttle ,
- Ear hooks,
- Beads (optional).
First of all, note that it’s NOT shuttle tatting, but needle tatting (2). For now, I find shuttle tatting considerably more challenging. A shuttle is listed (3), because it helps with getting thread through picots. As far as crochet cotton is concerned, my friend recommended me Anchor Aida and since it proved to be great, I haven’t tried anything else.
If you’re a total beginner, as I was a week ago, great tutorial can be found here. I tried out several different tutorials, found on sites devoted to needle tatting, but this one discusses the issue the most thoroughly. It explains EVERYTHING step by step.
All earings presented above are easy to make. You have to know only ONE pattern to create them – a simple flower. Different earings can be created by adding picots (1), beads (4), putting it on a ring (2), hanging it on a decorated thread (3) or using some other variation.
Btw, tatting flower can also be used as a decorations for the Christmas tree. Since it’s April, I used my one and only plant to simulate Christmas tree. Hmm, obviously someone is in love with lilac/heather … 😉
